Newbury Local Schools

March 13, 2020

Dear Families of the Newbury Local Schools,

In a press conference yesterday, Governor Mike DeWine issued a statewide order to close all public, private and charter schools in the State of Ohio, for a three-week period of time, effective 3:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16th for three weeks. According to news reports, the Governor will continue to review this order during this time frame.

Newbury Local Schools will be open on Monday, March 16th and we urge all of our students to attend.  At school on Monday, March 16th, Chromebooks will be distributed to all students in grades 4, and our Kindergarten through grade 3 students will be given work packets to take home.  In addition, our elementary students and valuable next steps will be communicated about the pending time away from school. The grading period ends on Friday, March 20th and the students will be expected to complete assignments next week that will be part of their third period grades.

Monday will  be pajama day and the students will be given ice cream sundaes at lunch. Please encourage your child to participate on this spirit day, and stress the importance of their attendance at school on Monday.

While the District will not expect student learning and staff work during our scheduled Spring Break during the week of Monday, March 23rd, the other days will be considered opportunities for learning and instruction. More details will be forthcoming and the District will share weekly update emails with our school family.

Please know that this directive comes in an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus. During such an unprecedented time and set of circumstances, the Newbury Local Schools will continue to monitor the matter and communicate with the community updates and important information. Thank you for your flexibility during this fluid matter.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jacqueline Hoynes, Superintendent of Schools
