Students Will Continue Remote Learning

April 20, 2020

Dear Parents / Guardians,

By order of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, students and staff will continue learning remotely at home for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  While this is disappointing news for us all, I remain grateful for the continued health, safety and well-being of our students and our community.

While our students are physically not in school, and as the Governor articulated in his press conference earlier today, there remains an expectation for continued learning and instructional growth for all of our students as they continue with their virtual schoolwork. As best as possible, the Newbury Local Schools is respectfully requesting your continued emphasis on stressing to your child the importance of completing all of their assignments.  Your child’s teachers are taking attendance and students will still be graded. School will resume at some point, and as best as practicable, our continued partnership with you on setting educational expectations during this unprecedented time will impact your child’s development and success next year.

Additionally, in order to diminish the impact of not physically being in school, the District is working on several plans to ensure a sense of closure for our students and staff. We think specifically about the Newbury High School Class of 2020, and are planning a special send-off for our seniors. Naturally, these plans are subject to further direction from our Governor pertaining to small group gatherings before the end of June.  While things just won’t be the same as in the past, we are dedicated to working hard to make sure our seniors are honored, recognized and commemorated in an appropriate and memorable fashion. I will keep you apprised as we hear more information and directives from the Governor.

Thank you for your continued support of your child’s education.  Please stay healthy and reach out to any of us if you need anything.
