It was with great pain and sorrow that I learned of the death of Shawn Wilkes in a traffic accident in a snowstorm on Friday night. With some, the memory is only a name; with Shawn it was a glorious smile, a leaping catch on the football field, and a positive way of looking at life that infected everyone around him. He was kind to me and to others, and his sense of humor was infectious. Shawn was a great ambassador for Newbury. I can hardly imagine the grief of his mom and dad, his brothers, and his grandparents, but I know that the larger family that is Newbury is helping them through these moments.
For those who can attend, visitation will be from 2 to 4 and then, again, from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, February 10, at Burr Funeral Home just south of the square in Chardon. Services will be on Thursday at 11 am, also at the Burr Funeral Home.
Shawn was, and is, one of our own, and he will be greatly missed.
