Jenny Campbell Comes to Newbury

by Mrs. Gingerich

On February 10th, the students at Newbury Elementary were visited by Jenny Campbell, a local illustrator.  Ms. Campbell has illustrated 17 children’s books, done many comic illustrations for Heinen’s, is a monthly contributor to Highlights for Children magazine, does all the graphics for Rescue Village, has a nationally syndicated comic strip – Flo and Friends, and has even designed her own license plate for pets for Ohio!  Ms. Campbell talked to the children about what it is like being an illustrator and how she works in these many different fields.  After a question and answer session, she then had the children be authors and create a character that she drew for them.  The students will take these characters they created and write stories or poems about them to read at the student author recital on March 12th.  A lot of fun and laughs were had by all.  We thank Ms. Campbell for taking the time to come visit us and teach us about illustrating. Thank you also, to the PTO for sponsoring the author's visit.
