Miss Yarg is Back!
Read Across America continues at Newbury Elementary
by Mrs. Morris
Newbury Elementary students celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday again this year with a Read Across America celebration on March 3rd. We discussed Dr. Seuss's use of pen names and students in Mrs. Morris's class created their own pen names. We also gave one to Miss Gray, hence her new name, Miss Yarg.
Miss Yarg joined our class and read The Lorax and The First of Octember to my fifth grade students. Students really enjoyed the stories and we discussed the way that Dr. Seuss included underlying themes in his children's books. The Lorax cleverly explored the impact of abusing our natural resources.
Thank you to Miss Gray for all of her hard work and dedication to education. We really enjoyed having you in our classroom. Thank you also to Ms. Proctor for coordinating the Read Across America event again this year!
