Newbury Elementary Welcomes New Staff Members
by Mrs. Gingerich
Recently Newbury Elementary employed two new staff members. Please welcome Ms. Peterca, special education teacher, grades 6 and 7, and Ms. Root, elementary guidance counselor.
Ms. Peterca was born and raised in Lyndhurst, OH and graduated from Charles F. Brush High School. She attended and graduated from Ohio University with a Social Studies Education degree. She recently received certification in special education and reading and is in the process of finishing a masters degree at Notre Dame College. In her spare time, she can be found reading and spending time outside with her dogs. She is enjoying getting to know and work with the 6th and 7th graders at Newbury!
Originally from Austintown, OH, Ms. Root graduated with an education degree and Masters in Counseling from Youngstown State University. Over the past seven years she taught grades 7-11 English and reading. She is now working in the elementary school as our school counselor. She meets with students individually as well as in small groups. Students may also see her in their classrooms teaching character education lessons.
While she sometimes misses the classroom, working as a school counselor gives her the opportunity to really get to know students. She thinks it's important for kids to feel as as supported as possible while they are at school and she's happy to be one of the people they look to for support. She is looking forward to getting married this summer and one of her favorite pastimes is biking on the tow path and enjoying the nice weather.
