Fourth Grade Fashion Show

February 17, 2010

Fourth graders in Mrs. Church’s art class have been exploring the inspiration, production, and art of fashion. The culmination of their unit in fashion required them to work in small teams to create a one of a kind look from paper.

The young designers were challenged to work a material that rips easily and at times seems to have a mind of its own. Students’ goals were to advertise and sell their work to potential peer buyers in a fashion show that took place in their art class. During this show, students learned about the many creative workers that produce fashion shows. They were able to play many roles throughout the show including buyer, model, and designer.

Previous introductions into the world of fashion for fourth graders included lessons in sewing a simple pouch and designing a complete look that was inspired by a historical work of art.
