Newbury Elementary and Junior High Spellers met February 5th to determine a champion speller to send to the Geauga County Spelling Bee. Of the twenty 4th-8th grade representatives, Jared Bottger, seventh grader, was victorious.
Thank you to the PTO and Booster Clubs for donating $5. Borders gift certificates to all participants and dictionaries to the winner and runner up. Thank you to Mr. Fitz, junior high teacher, and Dr. Barrickman, County Educational Services gifted coordinator, for being the judges. Thank you to parents, teachers, and students for working together to produce winning spelling students. The following students were involved:
4th grade: Solielle Girmai, Marissa Harding, Jacy Drabek, and Aiden Burkley,
5th grade: Sarah Stefancin, Hope Lewandoski, Makenna Sanders, and Trevor Otto
6th grade: James Craven, Zach Harding, Emily Wilson, Logan Hoover
7th grade: Jared Bottger, Amy Hemann, James Martin, and Kaitllyn Sullivan
8th grade: Jimmy Szymanski, D. J. Quigley, Maria Lampert, and David Hetzel
