Family Fun Night
The Newbury Elementary School PTO welcomed magician, comedian Chris Linn the evening of Friday, January 22, for a DOLLARS AND SENSE MAGIC SHOW.
Family Fun Night is an event the Newbury Elementary School PTO provides to their students and families, not as a fundraiser, but as a way to connect the families and encourage interaction among parents and students, all while attending a fun filled evening.
Prior to the show, families were invited to join the PTO for refreshments and a bake sale. More importantly, this gave students and their families an opportunity to mingle with and meet other families. Also available, was a chance to win some filled piggy banks. In order to win, students needed to sign a thank you card for the event sponsors and in return, they received a ticket to place inside the bank of their choice. It was not an easy task as they solved the math story problems to determine which bank they wanted to win. It was a great way to start the evening off incorporating learning and fun as well as appreciation for our sponsors. Contratulations to the four winners!
Refreshments were followed by a wonderful show by magician, comedian Chris Linn. Amongst his many awards, the one that stood out most is his national Guiding Light Award. He not only was the only comedy entertainer to have received this national award, but he earned it on three separate occasions for being a positive role model to America's youth.
The night of Family Fun Night, Chris took students on a magical journey about money, math and the importance of saving. The show included participants from the audience, who did a wonderful job being the magician's assistant and even doing some magic of their own. The show, while fun, entertaining and full of laughter, included math and money concepts that complimented Newbury's curriculum. The PTO feels this was a wonderful way to bring families together for good, clean and educational fun!
Family Fun Night was made free to all Newbury Elementary Families and Friends by the PTO who raised funds from local sponsors for the event. Sponsorship was received from Junction Auto, Middlefield Bank, and Jason Majors Family Dentistry, all friends and proud supporters of Newbury Elementary School.
With all the refreshments, prizes and entertainment we would have to say that it was the help from all the volunteers who set up, served, cleaned up and made baked goods as well as our sponsors and the turnout of all the families that truly made the evening magical!
