Modern Day Explorer Visits Newbury Elementary

Newbury Elementary fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students had the opportunity to travel the globe via Tania Aebi's lecture and power point presentation January 8th, 2010. She was the first American woman and the youngest to circumnavigate the globe alone in her sailboat Varunabeginning at age 18. She explained how her father offered her the opportunity to sail around the world as an alternative to college and she took him up on the offer. She regaled the audience with stories of places and people far away that we can only dream or read about in books. Her book Maiden Voyage can be borrowed from the Newbury library in the near future. It recounts the adventure.
