Summer Learning and Fun
Ms. Proctor
June 17, 2010
I hope that all of you are enjoying your summer time! Today Mrs. Gingerich and I had a very pleasant adventure. We had the opportunity to hear the final concert of the Cardinal Summer Band Camp. Beginning last Thursday through today six of Newbury's young musicians attended a Band Camp in Middlefield. They were there from 9:00 AM until noon each week day to learn the music for today's concert. They experienced working with other adult musicians, saw Cardinal Middle School, and met new friends. Most of the campers are going to be in sixth grade in the fall but two are going to be in eighth grade. It was nice for them to have this experience.
The students who attended the camp and their instruments are Hannah and Hope Lewandoski (alto saxophone and trumpet), Thomas McKale (baritone), James Martin (alto saxophone), Jessica Perez (flute), and Christina Weber (trumpet). The trumpet players got to experience using and playing with mutes. All the students learned some new notes, reinforced their understanding of rhythm and pitch, played some new music, made some recommendations for songs for me to buy, and they made some new friends. Following today's performance, the students enjoyed lunch at Pizza Hut.
Thank you to Newbury Music Boosters for giving us scholarships to attend the camp. We hope that going to band camps will become a Newbury tradition as our Band Program continues to grow! Enjoy the rest of your care-free days of summer!
