Project Love
By Judith Miller
On Wednesday, February 17, Newbury Junior High students took a short bus ride to the Geauga Historical Grounds in Burton to participate in a Project Love Seminar at the Bond Building. Mrs. Cheryl McNulty, the site manager at Geauga Historical, made the building available to us at no charge to the district. In past years, we have not been able to bring Project Love out to our students due to financial constraints both for Project Love and Newbury Local Schools.
Mrs. Mary Alice Casalina, Project Love's Educational Director, was contacted by Fairmount Minerals of Chardon inquiring about the work of the organization. They asked to see how the seminars are conducted for secondary students. Mrs. Casalina gave us the opportunity to be part of a seminar and to show the Fairmount Executives how the talented facilitators for Project Love interact with young adolescents.
As a result of this seminar, it is likely that we will be able to bring the Project Love facilitators back to Newbury to follow up with our 7th and 8th graders. This will likely occur next month or in April. Our joint mission is to create a learning environment that is safer for individual cognitive and social growth. We are attempting to provide a climate of acceptance and tolerance so all our students can take risks to find out who they are, for what they stand, and what they want to become.
