Mr. Etling describes the Riparian Zone to the students.

Third Graders Learn About the Riparian Zone

Mrs. Wurster

April 07, 2009

Mr. Ron Etling from Geauga Soil and Water visited third graders.  They enjoyed Mr. Etling's  talk, "Riparian Rescue."  They learned that a riparian zone is the land along the bank of a stream, river, or lake.  This is the area where many amphibians can be found when they are not in the water.  He explained if this area becomes polluted, many amphibians could be harmed.. We need to take care of our environment by not polluting and by ending habitat destruction.

The students were able to see live indicator species that live near the riparian zone that would be harmed by pollution and habitat destruction.
