Newbury Through the Eyes of a Child

Third Grade Artists Working on Community Murals

by Mrs. Church

This year in art, third grade students have been to South Africa, Benin, Australia, and now Mexico. We are traveling the globe learning about art and artifacts from different cultures. Now studying Mexico, these young artists have been introduced to the work of muralist Diego Rivera and painter Frida Kahlo.

This week and next, third graders will be working together to create three large murals. Each classroom will design, draw, and paint their vision of Newbury. In doing so they must communicate with one another and compromise to create their unique perspectives of our town.

Once the paint has dried, you may look for them to be exhibited throughout the school.
