Where The Wild Things Are
Second Grade Artists Exhibit in Chardon
by Mrs. Church
“And he sailed off through night and day
and in and out of weeks
and almost over a year
to where the wild things are.”
Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are
One will not have to travel as far as Maurice Sendak’s character Max to meet the wild things. This month an art exhibit “Wild Things,” will be on display inside Granfalloon Books, 104 Water Street in Chardon. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
These “Wild Things” were created by second grade art students from Newbury Elementary School. In art class, students read the book Where The Wild Things Are. After they discussed how an author brings his or her stories to life through illustration, they sketched their ideas and created their own “wild things.”
With terrible claws and terrible teeth, over 40 of these colorful “Wild Things” have landed at Granfalloon Books and will be on display now through November 5th. So sail on over and let the wild rumpus start!
