This is a meeting of the Board of Education in public for the purpose of conducting the school district’s business and is not to be considered a public community meeting.  There is a time for public participation during the meeting as indicated in the following agenda.

 

The President called the Newbury Board of Education meeting to order with the following members present:  Mr. Ayer, Mr. Blair, Mr. Douglas, Mr. Grubbs, Ms. O’Toole.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION – Persons who wish to appear before the Board and have not requested placement on the agenda seven (7) days in advance may speak to the Board concerning items for action prior to the New Business portion of the meeting.  This public participation segment of the Board meeting shall be controlled by the presiding officer.  Any discussion at this portion of the Board meeting cannot and shall not receive any Board action.  However, before the Board will hear a complaint or criticism about school personnel, the complaint must be submitted to the Treasurer, in writing, at least seven (7) days in advance of the meeting.  The employee will receive a copy of the complaint, and the process prescribed in Board Policy #9130, Public Complaints and Grievances, will be followed.

Approve an agreement with the Hiram Farm Living and Learning Community to provide transition services for a Newbury student going from school-age program to adult program for a total of 12 days from November 18, 2009, through January 15, 2010, in an amount (inclusive of transportation) not to exceed $1,567.00.   (Enclosures)

Approve payment to the Geauga County Educational Service Center for Transition Services Coordinator services in Aug., Sept., and Oct. of the 2009-10 school year in the amount of $654.99.  (Enclosures)

 

Approve payment to the Geauga County Educational Service Center for 2 Newbury students in a Special Education Cooperative MD unit for November, 2009, in the amount of $6,980.40.  (Enclosures)

 

Approve payment to the Geauga County Educational Service Center for a Newbury student receiving services at the Geauga County Group Home for 67 days of the first semester 2009-2010, in the amount of $9,766.59.  (Enclosures)

 

Approve payment to the Geauga County Educational Service Center for Newbury students in three Preschool units for September and October, 2009, in the amount of $4,312.00.

09-220                         AGREEMENT/VSP RENEWAL

Moved by Mr. Blair, second by Ms. O’Toole, to approve the following:

 

Approve a Sanitary Sewer Easement Agreement between the Newbury Local School District and Mr. Jeffrey J. Corrigan.  (Enclosures)

 

Accept a Notice of Renewal with VSP to provide vision insurance services to the district for the period December 1, 2009, through November 30, 2011, at a rate of $14.75 per covered employee.   (Enclosure)

09-221                         SUPPLEMENTAL/DONATION

Approve the elimination of the .25 hr. PM Berkshire HS Supplemental Contract held by Mrs. Patricia Meagher due to the relocation of the student to the Berkshire district.  (Enclosure)

 

Accept a donation from the Newbury Booster Club of a 5 cu. ft. freezer valued at $168.00.   (Enclosures)

 

Accept a donation of $50 from Richard A. Wagner, Superintendent.
