This is a meeting of the Board of Education in public for the purpose of conducting the school district’s business and is not to be considered a public community meeting. There is a time for public participation during the meeting as indicated in the agenda.

III. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION - This portion of the Board Meeting is open to those

who have requested in writing a place on the agenda at least seven days in

advance of this meeting. Presentations shall be limited to five minutes. A group

appearing before the Board should select a person to speak for the group.

XI. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION - Persons who wish to appear before the Board and

have not requested placement on the agenda seven (7) days in advance may speak

to the Board concerning items for action prior to the New Business portion of the

meeting. This public participation segment of the Board meeting shall be

controlled by the presiding officer. Any discussion at this portion of the Board

meeting cannot and shall not receive any Board action. Before the Board will hear

a complaint or criticism about school personnel, however, the complaint must be

submitted to the Treasurer, in writing, at least seven (7) days in advance of the

meeting. The employee will receive a copy of the complaint, and the process

in Board Policy 9130, Public Complaints and Grievances, will be followed.

A. Recommend the Board:

1. Approve minutes of the Regular Meeting of April 12 and Work Session of April 26, 2010. (enclosures)

3. Approve the purchase of World Studies 1 social studies textbooks

entitled World History, from Holt, Rinehart and Winston at a cost

of $9908.75 (appx.) (enclosures)

4. Approve the waiver of ½ technology credit graduation requirement

for a Newbury student due to circumstances beyond the student’s

control with the stipulation that the student exceed the minimum

number of required credits for graduation by at least one (1) full credit.

5. Approve the tentative list of graduates in the Newbury High School

Class of 2010 for Commencement on June 6, 2010, pending the

completion of all state and local requirements. (enclosure)

6. Authorize the employment of the following staff member for summer reading and math intervention in grades 1-6 from July 5 to July 30,

as needed per enrollment according to the terms and conditions of the

9. Approve a resolution authorizing continued membership in the

Ohio High School Athletic Association of Newbury High School

and Newbury Junior High School for the 2010-2011 school year.

By this resolution, the Newbury Local Board of Education agrees

that these schools will conduct their athletic programs in accordance

with the Constitution, Bylaws, Regulations, Interpretations, and

Decisions of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

10. Accept a donation from Heinen’s ABC School Donation Program
